Romans 3:1-2 Then what advantage has the Jew? ...Much in every way. To begin with, the Jews were entrusted with the oracles of God. ESV
What are some of the problems you face? Do you lack purpose? Marriage struggles? Financial difficulties? Parenting challenges? Imagine a speaker who is an expert on this very topic. His Ted Talk has two million views. He has written 26 books and 6 of them have been best sellers. Literally thousands and thousands of people have given testimony that his principles have helped turned their lives around.
Would you watch his video? Would you buy his books? Would you go and listen to him if he came to your town? If someone is that wise and that skilled at helping people, it seems like it would be invaluable to learn from him. He just might be able to change your life. As amazing as that would be, we have something even better. We have the oracles of God. The teachings of God. The very words of God.
Now, I’m not going to claim that the Bible is going to directly answer the specific challenges of every struggle you face, but neither will I downplay its value. There is a HUGE blessing in having the oracles of God on any topic, and the words of God address all of our greatest areas of need. Human wisdom is so untrustworthy, but to have the thoughts of God on a matter is priceless.
One of the most life-changing practices you can do is to read the Bible consistently. A chapter a day. Ten minutes a day. Three times a week. Whatever. Developing a habit of consistently putting yourself under God’s guidance and mentorship will transform your life as you uncover God’s heart and learn from his ways.
